Silence

I heard silence once. Now I just can't embrace it.

Hovering around me are people, plans, dreams, cities, erins, dogs, projects, cars, illnesses, earthquakes, hunger, mobile phones, internet, politicians, house ants, thieves, degrees, salaries

and fear

All together

humming

I heard silence once

How I long to hear it again

if only for the briefest fraction of my lifetime

But I can't shut them off

or me

It's just life

humming.
